Should we be “proud” that a compatriot is one the richest man in the world? Or that he’s built the most expensive house in the world? Going by the “pride in India” email forwards I recieve, we should, or sadly we are. Other than the debatable “fact” that 36% of NASA engineers are Indians, we “Indians” are also proud of a diamond that’s more valuable than all the wealth in the world, and apparently we should be proud of this repugnant display wealth as well.
Well it is his money, so he spends it in whichever way he sees fit.
The only good thing that the building generates, albeit very fleetingly, is the attention of some of really good commentators. Sample the following lines:
“The urban sprawl of Mumbai is like a porn movie. It is compellingly filthy, it develops without script or narrative, and it is chock-full of bad actors who seem vaguely puzzled about whatever it is they’re doing. And then suddenly, like a bolt from the blue, comes Antilia. It’s the money shot. It makes you realize the whole point of the movie.”
